J. Will Varin is an experienced litigator and trial lawyer and co-founder of Varin Thomas LLC.

Will represents clients in all aspects of complex civil litigation. Will’s practice ranges from health care and tort litigation to contractual disagreements, business, and other personal disputes. He represents clients before both state and federal courts including appeals to the Idaho Supreme Court. Will also represent his clients in alternative dispute resolution forums including mediations and arbitrations. Will strives to effectively represent his clients and efficiently resolve their disputes.

Will is an Idaho native and was born and raised in Fairfield, Idaho. He obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, CA and graduated from George Fox University in Newberg, OR with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Administration and a Certificate in Conflict Management. Prior to founding Varin Thomas LLC, Will practiced at a large Idaho law firm representing a broad range of clients and advocating their interests.

Will is an avid outdoorsman and, in his free time, enjoys hiking, hunting, skiing and otherwise exploring Idaho’s great outdoors. In a recent venture, Will and Varin Thomas LLC founded a community focused non-profit organization to accept the donation of Soldier Mountain Ski Area from the current owner, actor Bruce Willis. Soldier Mountain Ski Area is located in Will’s home town of Fairfield, Idaho.

Significant Representations

Serves as outside litigation counsel for Trinity Health and Saint Alphonsus Health System.
Participated as trial counsel in Federal Court representing minority shareholder in dispute with grazing association.
Participated as counsel representing pain care physician and clinic in wrongful death action through jury trial and on appeal to Idaho Supreme Court. Obtained favorable result from Idaho Supreme Court affirming defense verdict.
Participated as trial counsel in multi-week jury trial involving numerous claims ranging from breach of partnership agreement to civil conspiracy.
Represented physician assistant in a medical negligence case involving alleged delayed diagnosis and treatment of a slipped capital femoral epiphysis.
Represented governmental entity and successfully negotiated resolution of eminent domain proceeding through mediation.
Represented and advised health care client regarding patient privacy issues and provision of medical care to minor in emergency when family objected to traditional medicine and administration of pharmaceuticals on religious grounds.
Represent and advise health care clients relating to responses to governmental and private party subpoenas and other requests for medical records.
Represent health care providers in proceedings before the Idaho State Board of Medicine.
Represented corporation in dispute with minority shareholders and attempted derivative action and obtained dismissal with prejudice of minority shareholders’ claims.
